A story that began in 1937 at 740m above sea level
Michelangelo, who has long been immersed in the hotel world of the city of Taormina, during a walk in Zafferana Etnea, in the area known at the time as “Airone” had the idea of building the homonymous “Hotel Airone“.
Sitting on a stone, Michelangelo was fascinated by the enchanting landscape surrounded by nature, so much so that he instantly decided he wanted to build his hotel right on that spot, 740 meters above sea level.
Over time, the hotel expanded so much that it attracted artists such as Vitaliano Brancati, who loved to spend long periods of vacation at the Hotel Airone.
Upon his death, illustrious people such as Leonardo Sciascia, Alberto Moravia and his wife Elsa Morante loved to visit the hotel that inspired several works by Brancati and for which the “Brancati Prize” of the same name was established.
